Where to start?

Getting a job in Journalism has got to be the most difficult thing I have ever had to face.

With the unavailability of jobs, it’s becoming a harder industry to get into.

Most newspapers and publishings are decreasing due to the technology and the ease of getting information online.

I have recently applied for internships and work experience to try and get the ball rolling. So far, I’ve only had a few responses. All being negative!

I’m not gonna let this get me down though. I’m doing a degree in Journalism and am completely determined to get a good job at the end of it.

First things first, I need to get a full length. I will start fashion blogging as soon as this happens (this is the area I want to focus on with my journalism career) and hopefully be able to propel myself forward.

I hope everyone enjoys reading about my (boring) life.

And if you’re reading this and have any tips, PLEASE get in touch!

Ciao for now, x

  1. Try writing a letter instead of emailing, or making a youtube video introducing yourself and sending a link as part of your application. And go to networking events and put yourself about abit. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

  2. Try making a list of all the media outlets you’d like to do some work experience at. Go down the list and find out what the process to scoring work experience is. If you’re a first year student, many places will naturally shut the door on you.

Try using the term ‘work experience’ when asking around. It tends to be for a shorter period of time, e.g. a week. High school kids can get work experience, so it should be easy for you to get in this way. Many media outlets see internships as 1 month or more. Starting out with work experience can help you build up to an internship at a place.

You could also try a university magazine.

    Good luck!

    1. Thanks Tanya. I really appreciate your help.
I will bear this in mind when going through the process again. No doubt I will keep you updated on my blog.
