western civilization 1, week 1: from abraham to moses

In this essay I am going to give you a summary of the important events that happened in the time between Abraham and Moses. Abraham had a son named Isaac and Isaac had two sons named Jacob and Esau. Esau was the firstborn so he was supposed to get the birthright, but Jacob stole his birthright and blessing so he got chased out. After Jacob got chased out he went to his uncle and worked for him for seven years so that he could marry his younger daughter, but his uncle tricked him so he married his older daughter. Jacob worked for seven more years so that he could marry his younger daughter. Jacob had 12 son’s and 1 daughter. Joseph was Jacobs favorite son. Josephs brothers were jealous of joseph so they sold him to Egyptians and told Jacob that he was eaten by a wild animal. Joseph was sold to a man named Potiphar. Potiphar liked Joseph, but he got in trouble by Potiphar’s wife, so he was put in jail with two other men, one was the pharaohs cook and the other was the pharaohs cupbearer. They both had dreams one night and they didn’t know what they meant, so Joseph interpreted them and told them that the cook would be killed and the cupbearer would be given his job back. They both came true, but then the pharaoh started having dreams. Joseph interpreted them and told him that there would be seven years of prosperity then there would be seven years of famine. Joseph got put in charge of making sure that there would be enough food stored for the seven years of famine. Josephs brothers came to Egypt because they were hungry during the famine at first his brothers didn’t recognize him. Later Joseph told them who he was and his family moved to Egypt with him. Soon the pharaoh died and there was a new pharaoh who didn’t know joseph and enslaved all the Israelites. God called Moses to save the Israelites and Moses saved the Israelites and brought them to the Promised Land.
